A SECOND shoe has been found at the site in Beerwah where police and SES are searching for the remains of Daniel Morcombe.
The shoe was located about 10am in the vicinity of where a first shoe was found in the primary search site off Kings Road on the Sunshine Coast on Wednesday, the Courier-Mail reported.

Class One was spectacular to watch with the Aus 1 champions Mustang back in form and taking out both race 1 and 2 to position themselves 1st in their class for round 3. Their counterparts Maritimo glided effortlessly through the course but couldn’t match the speed of their team mates Mustang and came in 2nd for the weekend.

Supercat 1000 was again a competitive clash with Global Racing, Team 3 and The Good Guys battling it out in idyllic conditions. Global took it out hard in the 1st race and left Team 3 and the Good Guys to battle it out in the rear. As the race progressed, Team 3 and the Good Guys started to gain on Global and with some fantastic cornering on the buoys, The Good Guys managed to punch through to take a convincing 1st place with Team 3 coming in 2nd and Global Racing finishing 3rd. In the 2nd race, it was only Team 3 and The Good Guys who took to the water with Global unfortunately experiencing mechanical problems which saw their boat craned out of the water and placed on the truck ending their round 3 competition. Team 3 took it out hard and lead The Good Guys for half the race, but the cornering of The Good Guys was too tight for Team 3 to match and the boys from Mackay strode away for back to back wins in Townsville taking out 1st place for the weekend. Team 3 took 2nd place overall for the class with Global coming in 3rd.

The Supercat 600 class thrived in the calm conditions, but despite the conditions, saw 2 of the 4 boats in the class pull out by the end of race 1 due to mechanical issues. SUV Dodge Ram managed to bring the boat in for repairs after race 1 and made it out for the 2nd race to take 3rd overall for the weekend. Kwozzy blew an engine in race 1, which inevitably ended their Townsville competition. The unmistakable yellow BBC Digital boat seemed to skim along the water at top speed and the team’s consistency saw them take out first place in both the 1st and 2nd race giving them an overall 1st placing for the weekend. The Victorian based boat Saracen was not disappointed after making the trip to North Queensland as they came out with 2 second places over the 2 races to take 2nd overall for the Round.

In the smallest boats of the Series, the Supercat 400 class put on a show for the Townsville crowd. Local’s “It’s About Time” in the Civic Video boat had a great race in their new boat and finished the day with a solid 3rd placing. FGI and Hog’s Breath duelled it out again with Hog’s Breath taking the first race and FGI taking the 2nd. Unfortunately Hog’s Breath ran into problems in the 2nd race which resulted in them not finishing, giving FGI the win for the weekend. Hog’s Breath still managed to come in 2nd overall based on lap times in the 1st race.

The Australian Offshore Superboat Championships ends its North Queensland leg for another year and now heads South to Redcliffe on the 17th & 18th September followed by the Victorian legs in November and December.

The rejuvenated NSW side, which had gone so close to victory in Origin I, squared the series with an 18-8 win over the Maroons in front of a near capacity crowd of 81,965 at ANZ Stadium to end a four-match losing sequence against the Maroons.

Lockyer broke former Queensland halfback Allan Langer’s record for Origin appearances with this match his 35th in maroon. He played well but Queensland’s attack spluttered too often to cement a win and the series, with the decider to be held at an already sold-out Suncorp Stadium on July 6.

Lockyer also could be in trouble for a dangerous throw on NSW forward Anthony Watmough in the 73rd minute, although there was no follow through.

To make matters worse for the Maroons, centre Greg Inglis played the last 12 minutes with a painful shoulder injury.

The Blues attack was slicker than their rivals, and they played with plenty of venom with prop Paul Gallen penalised for a high shot on Inglis while Michael Ennis was pinched for another high shot on Corey Parker.

The result was sealed for the home side in the 77th minute with recalled veteran fullback Anthony Minichiello scoring near the posts after five-eighth Jamie Soward had brought mistakes from the Maroons with his astute kicking game.

Queensland led 8-6 at halftime, but needed to make a statement on the resumption because the Blues had got enough out of the first 40 minutes to fancy their chances.

Watmough conceded an early penalty and in the blink of an eye Queensland fullback Billy Slater was in the clear thanks to a magic pass from Lockyer.

But there was nothing to show from the break or several fearsome charges from Dave Taylor, with Queensland imploding with poorly executed passes.

It was the Blues who drew first blood with centre Will Hopoate, their only debutant, somehow holding off Slater to score in the left corner. Soward converted and the Blues led 12-8 with the “NSW” chant reaching fever pitch.

Inglis produced a magic offload to put winger Darius Boyd into the clear in the 54th minute, but Boyd’s inside pass to Johnathan Thurston was a poor one and the Maroons halfback knocked on.

NSW looked set to ram home their advantage after Slater dropped a Soward bomb two minutes later, but Queensland held firm with Slater making a crucial tackle on Watmough, who lost control of the ball as he got to his feet.

The Prime Minister came under fire from the Coalition after she voiced her offence at the “meow” noise Liberal Senator David Bushby made at Finance Minister Penny Wong yesterday.

Senator Bushby apologised to Senator Wong but his actions ignited a sexism row, with Labor accusing the Coalition of feral behaviour and Tony Abbott of leading a party of sexist “goons”.

However, the Coalition labelled Ms Gillard a hypocrite, claiming she had called Christopher Pyne a “mincing poodle” in 2009.

Ms Gillard denied the allegation, but then pulled Mr Abbott into the controversy.

Elisa Baker, who is charged with the murder and dismemberment of her 10-year-old Australian stepdaughter, had her arms and legs shackled and was guarded by a large police contingent, including two SWAT officers, as she was led into and out of Caldwell County courthouse.

BAD things happen in threes but Tully helicopter pilot Steven Shadforth reckons he won’t be flying into powerlines for a third time following his second lucky escape from a mid-air disaster.

“I am king of the idiots,” Mr Shadforth said yesterday just hours after his close call.

The 42-year-old crop duster for Liddles Air Services in Ingham clipped powerlines at a Forrest Beach property around 7.45am.

The Bell 206 Jet Ranger he was flying took off to spray sugarcane when the chopper’s nose clipped a wire.

Emergency crews were called to Forest Beach Rd, 5km from Ingham, following reports the helicopter had crashed. However the father of two said he averted danger by keeping the aircraft upright and making a textbook landing.

THE Townsville Hospital will receive $13.75 million from the Federal Government to reduce surgery waiting times and improve mental health services.

The funds will be used for a day procedure centre with 12 beds and is expected to deliver more surgeries sooner to people in the North.

Minister for Health and Ageing, Nicola Roxon will visit the city today to officially announce the funding.

“There will be two new purpose-built procedure rooms, preparation and recovery areas, and new consultation rooms for outpatients,” she said.

“Patients will be able to have day surgery instead of having to stay overnight in the hospital.

“It will reduce pressure on the hospital’s operating facilities, free up hospital beds and reducing waiting times for some elective procedures.”

The Government will provide $12.1 million for a day treatment centre at the hospital and $1.65 million for the construction and fit-out of a redeveloped and expanded mental health facility.

The funding also includes more in-house support services and outreach services for mental health patients.

State Health Minister Geoff Wilson said the Federal Government would work in partnership with the state to deliver the new services.

“The Commonwealth’s $12.1 million contribution to construct the centre comes on top of the Bligh Government’s investment of more than $45 million over four years to fund the additional surgery,” Mr Wilson said.

“As a result of this announcement 1780 extra locals each year will receive procedures like knee arthroscopy and cataract surgery.”
